Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)
Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) or artificial insemination helps a couple in bearing a child if they are unable to conceive due to unknown reason. In this treatment, sperm (from the male partner) is placed inside woman partner’s uterus when she is ovulating. The sperm which is placed at the time of ovulation has higher chances of fertilization. There is no surety that a woman will conceive the very first time. The conception is not successful until the sperm do not reach the egg. However, we take all the factors into account before going for this treatment.
When to opt for IUI?
IUI is a very safe procedure and is highly recommended if both the couples are unable to conceive despite any other health issue, the most common indications for this treatment are:
- Hostile cervical conditions, including cervical mucus problems
- Unexplained infertility or when there is donor sperm involved
- Slight issues in sperm count/motility
- Ejaculation dysfunction
The IUI Procedure
IUI is a very safe procedure and only take a few minutes. Once you are with our specialist you are at the right place. The procedure is very simple but doing at the right time matters the most. Our specialist study the ovulation pattern of a patient along with other health condition and only then recommend IUI procedure. Before the procedure begins, the patient is given ovulation-stimulating medication before the insemination is conducting so that it does not fail to fertilize. The specialist waits for the eggs to mature and do the IUI procedure at that time to avoid any failure. It is done at the time of ovulation when there is a surge in LH hormones. The semen from the male partner is preserved in the lab in advance. The procedure is conducted with the help of a catheter which is used to insert the sperm in the uterus at the time of ovulation.
